The best annual tourism video started filming on Saturday. Glorious aerial shots and spectacular scenery appear on screens across the world for the month of July. Large amounts of Euros are spent by towns to tempt Le Tour their way, so why don’t the tourist offices along the route of the Tour de France have a coordinated online presence?
Today’s route is along one of the most visited areas in France: Marseille – Les-Baux-de Provence – St-Rémy-de-Provence – La Grande Motte
So what mention of Le Tour is there on the websites of these towns? Absolument Rien…..
There must be ways that towns can capitalise online from the Tour de France. Perhaps a map of the route through the town so you can see exactly what you were looking at on the television. Why not promote cycling holidays just for that day? There must be a significant spike in their traffic for this one day, yet they aren’t doing anything for it.
Are any of the towns doing anything special on Twitter for the day? Non.
Even on the official Tour de France site you can’t click through to the towns on the map. If I was paying the sort of money these towns are to play host for the day, I’d make sure they gave me a bit of link love in return.
Is there not an opportunity for someone to coordinate an online presence with the tour for these towns?
Anyway, good luck to Mark Cavendish today…….
